Electric car startup Thunder Power reveals SUV model

Following a debut in 2015, the International electric car manufacturer Thunder Power returned to Frankfurt to showcase the latest evolution to its saloon car and revealed a new SUV prototype – complete with coach doors.

The Thunder Power team brings together European engineering, Italian design and manufacturing base in China.  At this years Frankfurt event the team also revealed they are in the process of constructing a second manufacturing site based in Catalonia, Spain.

Both Thunder Power electric models sit on an all-new dedicated platform featuring a huge 125kWh battery pack tht enables unprecedented range of up to 650 km or 404 miles according to the NEDC calculations. A choice of motor configurations up to a maximum of 430kW ensures no compromise in performance.

Mass production of the teams saloon model, named TP-01 is scheduled to start in under two years.  Since its debut at IAA 2015, the Thunder Power saloon has been developed from the original concept vehicle with noticeable styling and aerodynamic enhancements to both the front and rear of the car, yet the car still retains its distinctive front grill.

The Thunder Power SUV Concept

Joining the saloon model will be an in house designed SUV.  Thunder Power SUV “Future Vision” alpha prototype represents the shape of things to come.  Benefiting from the advantages of the modular design of the dedicated platform, the SUV is than natural extension of the range, especially with the SUV market being the fastest growing.

A unique electrical motor and battery configuration offers unmatched levels of freedom in design – which the company refers to as Intelligent Packaging. Intelligent Packaging maximizes interior space, especially in the rear.  It allows a center of gravity comparable to that of a saloon car, significantly improving the driving experience whilst retaining all the advantages of the modern off road vehicle.

Designed and developed in Germany, the Space Frame structure combines lightweight shaped aluminum with hot forged high-straight steel allowing a total weight reduction of more than 40% compared to the conventional standard.

Unique interior design common across both models
