UK based start-up Detroit Electric plans for a 3 model electric car line-up

UK-based electric vehicle start-up, Detroit Electric, today presented the first outline sketches of some of its future models during the company’s debut at Cenex’s LCV2017 (Low Carbon Vehicles) event at Millbrook in Bedfordshire.

Styling images show side-profile silhouettes of three models that the Leamington Spa-based electric vehicle manufacturer will develop and introduce over the next three years: a sports car, a crossover and a large saloon.

Chief Technical Officer and Company Director Richie Frost, says:

“We have been working for a long time to put our company into a position where we’re ready to embark on this exciting journey. And we wanted to share our excitement with the visitors to the LCV event by releasing these sketches. They are an unequivocal signal of our intent.

We have secured a solid financial foundation and are fortunate to have exceptional facilities in Warwickshire that we’re looking to expand further in the months ahead,” continues Frost. “And to that we are adding between 150 and 200 roles that we’re filling with the best vehicle and electrical engineering talent in the country, some of who we’re hoping to find here at the LCV show.”

The early stages of development projects for Detroit Electric’s range of pure electric cars are already underway following a recent injection of US$1.8 billion in capital from a joint venture agreement.  To complete these ambitious the business is recruiting 150 – 200 engineers and will invest significantly to expand its engineering and manufacturing centre in Leamington Spa to create a state-of-the art R&D facility, alongside its China facilities.

The Detroit Electric name dates back to 1907 when the Anderson Electric Car Company established itself as the market leader and most prolific manufacturer of electric cars.

Detroit Electric was revived in 2008 by Albert Lam, former Group CEO of the Lotus Engineering Group and Executive Director of Lotus Cars of England, with a vision to produce an electric vehicle that combines refined aesthetics, innovative technology and superior handling and performance.
