Evolving from a European Road Trip of last year, 8 days of electric driving to prove it is possible to do so in a sustainable way, the Electric Vehicle Road Trip (EVRT) movement arrived in Dubai – a country founded on oil extraction. Organiser Global EVRT was founded by Ben Pullen, who now lives in Dubai working on the expansion of solar energy in the sun drenched nation.
Descending upon the UAE’s roads for a four-day tour between 29th January – 1st February, with ribbon cutting events to open new charging stations en-route, allowing electric vehicles total freedom to drive around the entire country, with a grand finale event at The Sustainable City in Dubai after covering 700km through all seven Emirates of the UAE.
Ben Pullen commented:
“This trip, coupled with the installation of these charging stations, will open up the roads of the UAE to over 750km of electric vehicle driving. This is a great way to kick off 2017, which we believe is the year when the UAE will cement its foundations for electric vehicles as it gets ready for an exciting few years in the run-up to Expo 2020. An era of electric vehicle adoption, infrastructure installation, and technology innovation awaits.”
Joining the trip was Fully Charged host Robert Llewellyn and his highly skilled camera man Mark, creating a stunning video of the trip. Described by the organisers as “A road trip with a difference….signally a drive towards a sustainable energy future”.
The roadtrip is set to arrive in India later this year and plans to electrify China in 2018.
